Conceived of, created and printed within forty eight hours, Smooth Glide was made in a rush of manic energy during a chaotic breakup. I found an old rant in one of my journals, which I rewrote into a monologue, told from the perspective of a skateboarding goat. Smooth Glide is amongst the favourite of my books, because I was feeling highly in touch with the reality of my feelings and situation. The fact that it’s a silly comic about a goat breaking up with a skateboard adds an element of abstraction from the bleaker subject matter. The concept of an anthropomorphic skater wouldn’t have occured to me without the influence of my good friend Wyatt Arms (@wyattillustrates), who creates charming, whimsical characters who truly capture the human experience.
